The proposed technology is based on the endogenous mechanisms regulating cellular homeostasis and, in particular, on mechanisms that control cell proliferation and apoptosis.

From a molecular point of view, the methodological approach is based on the design of RNA suitable for gene silencing, the so-called small interfering RNAs/siRNAs.

Once delivered to the cells as such or as shRNA using suitable vectors (also inducible), these siRNA are able to induce the alternative translation of the specific mRNA target.

It is a technology which allows to register SAXS scanning microscopies: an hard X-ray beam, focused by  proper optics, illuminates consecutive area of a sample, with a 2D detector – placed at a proper distance from sample - registering the signal diffracted from each illuminated area, in the small angle scattering range (SAXS). At the end of the acquisition, data are composed together in quantitative microscopy, using specific crystallographic and statistic approaches.

A stable and water-soluble copper(I) complex, [Cu(thp)4]PF6 (thp = trishydroxymethylphosphine) shows an in vitro antiproliferative  activity towards several human cancer cell lines, generally from  2 to 40 times higher than that showed by cisplatin, the reference standard for metal-based antitumor drugs. Moreover it exhibits a low toxicity due to its high selectivity against cancer cell lines compared to normal ones.

AIM: To design and validate a multiparametric platform that allows the simultaneous detection of multiple immunohistochemical markers for CRC, by combining different positive or negative indicators, with the aim of developing a diagnostic/prognostic tool more specific, than those currently available.

The technology is based on the development of molecular markers suitable to the identification and quantification of the precious white truffle - Tuber magnatum Pico – in truffle-products in order to certify their quality to the consumer.

The identification of the truffle species is generally based on the features of their spores and peridium, but the identification in processed truffle-products as creams and butter can be ambiguous because of the drastic treatments to which truffles are exposed during the commercial preparation.

The “Stazione Sperimentale di Granicoltura per la Sicilia” has developed some applications for the evaluation of morpho-colorimetric parameters of food products, by means of image analysis technology. These application software allow to obtain accurate and precise measurements of sample physical traits relating to size, shape, color and the texture, reducing erroneous assessments related to the subjective and personal visual evaluation.

New Caspase-1 Inhibitors

# TechID: 

A new class of non-covalent caspase-1 inhibitors. The synthesized low molecular weight non-peptidic molecules have shown neuroprotective activity and are able to cross the blood brain barrier. Such molecules are of interest to modulate the inflammatory process with potential therapeutic application for both acute and chronic neurodegenerative diseases but also for inflammatory based diseases as articular diseases, skin disorders, and bowel diseases.
